India observes Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. It is one of India's three national holidays, observed on October 2nd every year. The day is recognized as the International Day of Non-Violence by the UN. Gandhi, who was referred to as the "Father of the Nation" by Subhas Chandra Bose, promoted one of the most well-known theories of peaceful protest.
